Deposit book, 1841-1842.

The deposit books consist of a record of all financial income of the Bank which, during the early development of the Branch Banks, was recorded daily, and upon the liquidation of the Bank and its Branches the deposits were recorded monthly. The financial income that is listed, with the amount deposited, includes bills of exchange, extended business bills, interest received, certificate accounts, expenses and mortgages, income received on the sale of the 16th section of land, and commission accounts. The deposit books also list the name of the depositors and the amount they are depositing. Also included are the records of the deposits that were made by the other Branch Banks and the State Treasurer, and if they deposited the money by cash, by warrant, by package of notes of the State Bank and its Branches, or by certificates of deposit. Usually the name of the depositor is listed below the name of the State or Branch Bank. Upon the liquidation of the Bank, the deposit books record the amount of partial payments, notes discounted, current expenses, and funds for bank attorneys. The amount is totaled at the end of each day or month.
